Julien Assange as The Green Hornet.

There are a slew of comic book films being released in 2011, the first one being "The Green Hornet," as herein described by ABC Networks:  "With his faithful valet Kato, Britt Reid, daring young publisher, matches wits with the Underworld, risking his life so that criminals and racketeers within the law may feel its weight by the sting of the Green Hornet!"

5 New Year Resolutions for Comic Book Readers

Hello Heroes,

The following comes by way of About.Com.  I've cut down the original column to the  Resolution essentials:

1. Check Out A New Comic Book

There are more and more comic books coming onto the scene everyday. Granted, some are better than others, but you might be surprised to see the kind of quality comics that are coming out from many of the smaller comic book publishers. ...Do yourself a favor and read something new this year.

2. Buy A Piece Of Comic Art
Is there a better way to add a valuable piece to your collection, show your comic book pride, and get something so cool that you can display on your wall? I doubt it. Comic book art is quickly becoming something that is being an acceptable thing to showcase in your home with the rise in profile of the superhero. You can start of small with something inexpensive, or go for the big ones with classic work by some of comics greatest. Either way, you will get something that will be a conversation starter and something great to look at every day.

3. Introduce Comics To A Friend
You most likely have friends who aren’t into comic books. There might be even one or two that still think comic books are for kids. Show them they are missing out on something good by giving them a comic book. Make sure it is a good, top quality comic book and they will surely see the value in what you spend so much time, money, and effort in. You could consider buying them a subscription or get them a gift card to your favorite comics shop. Make an experience by volunteering to be their safari guide through the world of comics and show them the ropes. Eventually that young Padawan will become a Jedi in no time.

4. Go To A Convention
A convention is wonderful place for a comic book lover. You can meet creators, get comics, attend panels, and just bask in the glory of the comic book goodness. Comic book conventions have so much to offer the comic fan, and more and more of them are springing up. You can try for a local or smaller convention, or trek on out to one of the larger ones. Do yourself a favor and go to a convention.

5. Read An "Indy" Comic Book
Superhero comics aren’t the only comic books out there you know. There are a lot of great comic books that are about everyday life, days gone by, political issues, or just plain old zombies. Indy comics are coming out more and more with many new small press publishers. The variety is amazing and you can be sure to find something you’ll like.

Super Hero Christmas

Hello Heroes!

Help Santa deliver Christmas presents to the children. The following is  a game called "Christmas Super Hero": "The blue presents must be delivered to the boys and the pink presents must be delivered to the girls. If a present that Santa drops doesn't look like it will fall to the right person, catch it and make sure it does. Use the arrow keys to move your superhero. Press space bar to throw a present."
Here is the link.  Have fun:  Christmas Superhero
So, it got me to thinking about what heroes do on Xmas?  Of the two DC is usually the more festive:

Yes, Tyrone, There Is a Santa Claus - "DC Infinite Holiday Special" (2007)This synopsis comes from http://www.comicsalliance.com/: "DC's Christmas offerings over the past few years have been pretty hit-or-miss, but this one is the biggest bright spot of the bunch by far. Clocking in at a slim ten pages, Kelley Puckett and Pete Woods bring you the hilarious story of Superman being so moved by a child's letter asking if Santa exists that he decides to play Santa himself to restore his faith... and then reconsiders once Batman shows up on his jetpack and calls him pathetic."
Personally, I can't image a darker Xmas than hanging with the Dark Knight, even DC agrees, as depicted in the following:
The Silent Night of the Batman - "Batman" #219 (1970)

As for Marvel, what says X-Mas more than the X-Men?

As some of you might have seen, Superman is getting a Twilight-ish revamp.  This from http://www.comicbookmovie.com/:

Then, too, there is Connor Kent,  Clark's cleancut, Lex-made clone:

We include a recent interview, by way of http://www.newsarama.com,/ with DC writer Jeff Lemire, who is finding ways to humanize the Petrie-dish Kryptonian, who is now living in Smallville and pretending to be Clark's cousin: News on Conner Kent, Superman's clone

Hello Heroes!

Hello Heroes!

This blog is my way of furthering the discussions and topics found in my book, Caped Crusaders 101.  Together with my good friend David Rojas, we hope to offer insights on some of the monthly offerings of Marvel and DC Comics.

Stay tuned and, in the meantime, be Super!
